Wood fuels information

Wood pellet

  • Wood pellet offers the most flexibility of the three wood fuels.
  • Whether you want to heat a single room, or something as large as a primary school, there is a wood pellet system to suit.
  • Two standard sizes are available 6mm and 8mm. Most equipment is designed to run on one of these sizes.
  • Fuel options also range from bagged fuel fed by hand to fully automated feed from a larger bulk store. This is refilled from a tanker requiring no customer involvement.
  • Automatic self cleaning and de-ashing options further reduce the need to "get involved".

 Wood Chip

  • Wood chip heating systems are a specialist area.
  • Wood chip comes to a size specification and needs to have ben managed before use to keep the moisture content low.
  • Delivery is always in bulk and usually requires specialist handlnig equipment
  • If you think you have a suitable application please contact us in the first instance for an informal assessment and we will be  happy to advise your options.

Log

  • Logs as a fuel need more care and attnetion than the other types.
  • Log boilers need to be batch fed and lit by the owner on a frequent basis.
  • The logs need to be fully seasoned; which can take up to 2 years , stored in a dry location and be of a reasonably consistent size to get the most out of the boiler.
  • Poor system design or fuel can lead to issues of underperformance and soot and tar build up in the boiler and flue.
  • Logburners –As a HETAS biomass approved company we can design and install your wood fired heating and hot water system to the level of sophistication you require. Please contact us for further information
  • Log boilers – for a larger scale installation, including full heating and hot water, selection of the correct log boiler is critical. We use a small range of carefully selected systems to suit your particular needs.
